On Sunday, we learned the name of another participant in the second edition of the Polish Handball Super Cup. After winning the ORLEN Women’s Superliga with two rounds remaining in the season, KGHM Zagłębie Lubin clinched the Polish championship title. Bożena Karkut’s team claimed its fifth consecutive national championship.
The Polish Super Cup will kick off the 2025/2026 season of the ORLEN Women’s and Men’s Superliga. This is a unique opportunity to see the best Polish handball teams in action right at the start of the new season. On August 30, at the Atlas Arena in Łódź, the Polish champions and the winners of the ORLEN Polish Cup—in both the women’s and men’s divisions—will compete for the trophy.
By winning the championship, KGHM Zagłębie Lubin has secured a spot in the Polish Super Cup. We’ll find out who the “Copper Girls” will face very soon—on May 17–18, during the Final4 of the ORLEN Polish Women’s Cup in Kalisz, the battle for this prestigious trophy will be decided.
We previously learned who the first participant in the men’s Polish Super Cup would be—Industria Kielce triumphed in the ORLEN Polish Cup. The second finalist will be determined by the ORLEN Superliga finals, which will be played in May and June. In the event that the ORLEN Polish Cup winner also claims the Polish championship, the runner-up in the national championship will earn a spot in the Super Cup.
KGHM Zagłębie Lubin has won its fifth consecutive Polish championship title, reaffirming its dominance on the national stage. The Lubin team is renowned for its excellent game organization and solid defense. The “Copper Girls” roster includes top Polish national team players, such as Basia Zima and Karolina Kochaniak-Sala. The team is also bolstered by international stars such as Patricia Matieli and Mariane Fernandes from Brazil (champions of South and Central America) and Malena Cavo from Argentina.
