5 Seconds of Summer, one of the most popular Australian bands of the past decade, was formed in 2011 by school friends Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, and Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin joined them that same year. Although they had no promotion beyond social media, their first EP, “Unplugged,” quickly began to reach audiences beyond their home country. In 2013 and 2014, they joined One Direction on an international tour, gaining new fans in North America and Europe, and their next EP, “She Looks So Perfect,” debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. charts. When they released their self-titled debut album in May 2014, there was no doubt about their status—the album topped the charts in over a dozen countries. To date, the band has released five albums. The latest of these, “5SOS5” (2022), reached the Top 3 on the charts in the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada, among others. The group’s newest album, “EVERYONE’S A STAR!”, will be released on November 14.
