Renovation of the overpass near the Łódź Kaliska train station. Preparatory work begins
The renovation of the overpass on Włókniarzy Avenue near the Łódź Kaliska train station is fast approaching. However, before the main work begins in earnest, road crews must prepare the site and construct temporary ramps connecting the roadways. The first steps are scheduled for this week.
The overpass needs to be modernized after three decades of use
The overpass on Włókniarzy Avenue in Łódź was built in the mid-1990s. After nearly 30 years of use, the structure requires comprehensive modernization.
This is one of the key locations on the city’s transportation network, which is why the start of the renovation will cause some disruptions. However, the work is necessary to ensure that the overpass can continue to serve residents safely for years to come.
Temporary connecting passages will be built first
During the renovation, the overpass on the side of the train station will be closed. North-south traffic in both directions will be able to use the adjacent roadway.
To implement this traffic configuration, road workers must first construct temporary connecting roads between the two carriageways. These will be built on both sides of the overpass—on the Górna side at Parkowa Street and on the Bałuty side at Struga Street.
First changes for drivers
Preparatory work will result in the first changes to traffic patterns. Inner lanes will be closed in sections. Speed limits have also been implemented for safety reasons.
The underpass will remain open as usual. MPK Łódź trams and buses will also continue to operate as usual.
Major renovations will begin in late June or early July
Preparatory work is scheduled to be completed in June. Once the temporary access roads are ready, road crews will close the overpass in the direction of Górna, and traffic will be diverted to the other lane.
Major repairs to the overpass on Włókniarzy Avenue will begin in late June or early July and will continue through the fall of 2027.
The work will cover the entire structure
The overpass is over half a kilometer long. The renovation will cover every part of it. A total of 47 tasks are planned—ranging from reinforcing and repairing the piers and spans to replacing the pavement.
The scope of work will also include drainage, expansion joints, and corrosion protection. Every structural component will be repaired or replaced.
