Łódź is making an increasingly strong mark on Europe’s tourism and business map. The regional capital has been recognized, among other things, as the best destination in Europe for a solo city break and has risen to third place among the most popular Polish destinations for fall trips. It has also been ranked among the top cities to live in Poland.
Łódź is making a splash abroad
Łódź attracts attention not only from residents and tourists from Poland. The city is also appearing more and more frequently in international rankings and publications. The British daily*The Independent* named Łódź the best European destination for a solo city break. In the ranking, it came out ahead of cities such as Lyon, Valencia, Athens, Naples, and Sofia.
Among the city’s greatest assets, its cinematic heritage, murals, museums, and the postindustrial architecture of its former factories were highlighted. Its affordable prices and the ability to comfortably explore the city on foot were also praised .
The perfect city for a city break
Growing interest in Łódź is also evident among Polish tourists. According to data from Travelist.pl, the city has moved up from sixth to third place among the most popular destinations for fall city breaks. The number of reservations has doubled.
Łódź thus ranked behind Gdańsk and Kraków, ahead of Warsaw, Gdynia, and Wrocław, among others.
It's also a great place to live
Łódź is also climbing the rankings for quality of life. In Business Insider's ranking, it took third place among the best cities to live in Poland, moving up three spots.
The availability of housing and doctors was rated particularly highly. Łódź ranked second in both of these categories. The capital of the Łódź Province also ranked third in terms of air quality.
Łódź's economy is growing
This positive image of the city is reinforced by economic data. Between 2005 and 2023, real GDP per capita in Łódź grew by an average of 4.5 percent annually. This result placed the city eighth among 196 regions in Central and Eastern Europe.
In 2023, GDP per capita had already reached 97 percent of the European Union average. By comparison, eight years earlier, it stood at 85 percent.
Attractions in the Łódź region have also received awards
Popular attractions in Łódź also ranked highly in nationwide polls. The Orientarium at the Łódź Zoo was named “Attraction of the Season” in the Travelist 2026 Winter Stars poll, receiving more than a quarter of all votes.
Aquapark Fala took first place in the category of best thermal baths and water parks. OFF Piotrkowska was among the winners of the TRI Awards: Summer City Oaza 2026 poll .
These latest accolades show that Łódź has more and more reasons to attract tourists, residents, and visitors coming to the city for events. Culture, entertainment, sports, post-industrial architecture, and a rich calendar of events make Łódź one of the most interesting destinations in Poland today.
