Krzysztof Cugowski in concert with the Zespół Mistrzów

2019 promises to be a landmark year in Krzysztof Cugowski’s long musical career. Poland’s most iconic rock vocalist plans to embark on a concert tour with his own band. Thanks to its legendary frontman and exceptional lineup, the group is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting musical phenomena of this year and the years to come.

Krzysztof Cugowski is an undisputed star of the Polish music scene, co-founder and longtime lead singer of the band Budka Suflera. He has released 12 studio albums, 4 live albums, and 5 compilations. Among them is the album “Nic nie boli tak jak życie” (“Nothing Hurts Like Life”), which sold over a million copies, thereby setting a sales record in Polish music that remains unbroken to this day. The band has performed in the largest and most prestigious venues around the world. In 1999, Budka Suflera also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. A few years later, the musicians returned to the United States to record some of the tracks for the album “Jest” (released in 2004) at Village Recorders in Los Angeles. The band was supported at the time by bassist Marcus Miller, guitarist Steve Lukather, and drummer Sheila E.

Krzysztof Cugowski has also released several solo albums, as well as the album *Integralnie* (2001), featuring covers of major Polish and international rock hits. He has also collaborated with Ray Wilson, the former lead singer of Genesis. Together, they recorded the song “Not About Us.” The singer has also performed with Gary Brooker and Garou.

Budka Suflera disbanded in 2014. In December of that same year, Krzysztof Cugowski was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by the President of Poland for his outstanding contributions to Polish culture and for his achievements in artistic and creative work. After the band’s disbandment, in the fall of 2015 he released another solo album titled “Przebudzenie” and began touring with the band “Bracia,” founded by his sons. Last year, the family trio, under the name CUGOWSCY, released an album titled “Zaklety krag.” The finale of the concert tour dedicated to the new release is scheduled for next year. The singer has also been involved in several interesting projects, including performing in an opera and operetta repertoire with Aleksandra Kurzak, a world-renowned soprano.

In the meantime, work has begun on forming a new band to accompany the legendary vocalist in the next phase of his solo career. The group features outstanding musicians who are well-known on the rock and jazz scenes.

Jacek Królik, a guitar virtuoso with a discography of nearly a hundred albums, will perform on guitar. A co-founder of the bands Chłopcy z Placu Broni, Brathanki, and Giganci Gitary, he has also performed with Lombard and Tilt. He has collaborated with Zbigniew Preisner, Urszula, Renata Przemyk, and Krzysztof Antkowiak. He participated in the recordings of Justyna Steczkowska’s first two albums and Grzegorz Ciechowski’s legendary album “Oj Dada na.” Since 1996, he has been collaborating regularly with Grzegorz Turnau and Andrzej Sikorowski. Recently, he has been recording with the band “Wieko” and Robert Chojnacki.

On bass, you’ll hear Robert Kubiszyn, an outstanding double bassist and jazz bassist, arranger, and composer. He regularly collaborates with Anna Maria Jopek, Grzegorz Turnau, Henryk Miskiewicz, Marek Napiórkowski, and Dorota Miskiewicz. His credits also include performances with artists such as Dean Brown, Jon Herington, Mino Cinelu, Grégoire Maret, Janusz Muniak, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jarosław Śmietana, Apostolis Anthimos, Ewa Bem, Natalia Kukulska, and Kuba Badach. Winner of a Fryderyk Award for his solo album “Before Sunrise.”

He has collaborated with some of the most prominent artists on the Polish music scene, including: Andrzej Piaseczny, Dorota Miskiewicz, Ewa Uryga, Ewa Bem, Grzegorz Turnau, Andrzej Sikorowski, Henryk Miskiewicz, Irena Jarocka, Jorgos Skolias, Lora Szafran, Marek Grechuta, Marek Napiórkowski, Mietek Szczesniak, Natalia Kukulska, Natalia Niemen, and Urszula. He has also collaborated with the orchestras of Adam Sztaba and Tomek Szymuś.
