The Orlen Cup will once again be held at Atlas Arena
It’s going to be a spectacular start to the Olympic track and field season! On January 27, the Atlas Arena in Łódź will host the next edition of the ORLEN Cup track and field meet. As is tradition, this event in Łódź kicks off the indoor season in Poland.
As in previous editions, men will compete in Łódź in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump, and pole vault, while women will also compete in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
– We’re obviously looking forward to the upcoming season with great excitement, and this indoor season will serve as a prelude to what awaits us this summer: the Olympic Games in Paris. “I hope the opening of this season will be of high quality, and that the fans, who always cheer on the athletes enthusiastically at Atlas Arena, will once again come out to support them,” says Sebastian Chmara, vice president of the Polish Athletics Association. The ORLEN Cup in Łódź is supported by ORLEN S.A. and the city of Łódź.
– Atlas Arena and the thrill of sports have been inextricably linked since the arena first opened. I believe that the venue will once again prove to be a lucky charm for our male and female track and field athletes, and that the successes they achieve here will bring them closer to competing at the Olympic Games in Paris. “Following the success of the women’s national volleyball team, which secured its spot at the Olympics at Atlas Arena, fans will surely turn out in large numbers to cheer on the athletes during the Orlen Cup, ” says Tomasz Korowczyk, spokesperson for the Municipal Arena of Culture and Sport.
Track and field athletes, who eagerly return to Łódź every year to compete in the ORLEN Cup, praise the experience of competing in the Łódź arena. “I really like Atlas Arene because there’s truly amazing interaction with the audience here, and events in this arena have their own unique atmosphere,” says Piotr Lisek, Poland’s top pole vaulter. This year, the Łódź meet will be a Bronze-level event in the World Athletics Indoor Tour series.
Ewa Swoboda, who broke the Polish record two years ago at the ORLEN Cup, is likely to make another appearance before Polish fans at the Atlas Arena in Łódź. Last year, Pia Skrzyszowska put in a stellar performance, winning the 60-meter hurdles. The full entry list will be announced in early 2024.
“As we do every year, we want to bring together the most exciting lineup of track and field athletes to give fans a great start to the season—which is, after all, a special one, as it will culminate in the most important event of all: the Olympic Games. I warmly invite everyone to Atlas Arena, because excitement is guaranteed, ” adds Chmara.
