Construction of the KDP tunnel near Atlas Arena. Changes to traffic patterns and maintaining access to the facilities.
The project to build a 4.6-kilometer high-speed rail tunnel near Łódź is entering a new phase. A K5 technical chamber will be built near Atlas Arena, which will ultimately serve as an emergency exit and technical facility. The work has been scheduled to minimize disruptions for attendees of sporting and cultural events.
The construction of the K5 tunnel has necessitated changes on Bandurskiego Avenue, but maintaining access to Atlas Arena and the Władysław Król Municipal Stadium remains a priority. This has led to the division of the work into two phases:
Phase I (Q2 2026 – Q2 2027): The contractor will close the roadway on Bandurskiego Avenue in the direction of Retkinia. Traffic will be diverted to a two-lane bypass. During this time, the exit from Unii Lubelskiej Avenue will remain open, and trams will continue to operate on their regular routes. Only the underpass near the Arena will be closed.

Phase II (mid-2027 – mid-2028): Drivers will return to the main roadway of Bandurskiego Avenue (three lanes). During this phase, the exit from Unii Lubelskiej Avenue directly onto Bandurskiego Avenue will be closed.

Although the work will require modifications to the road infrastructure, the above-ground structures will be small (approximately 5×15 meters). The key part of the project will be hidden underground, ensuring safety in the tunnel connecting the area around Maratońska Street with the Łódź Fabryczna train station.
All work in this area is scheduled to be completed by mid-2028.
The Municipal Culture and Sports Arena in Łódź, which operates the Wł. Króla Stadium and Atlas Arena, is working with the contractor to ensure that mass events run smoothly despite the ongoing construction of underground infrastructure.
