A crucial phase of the field’s renovation has begun at the Władysław Król Municipal Stadium in Łódź ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. A state-of-the-art hybrid turf using SIS Pitches technology—a solution used in the world’s most prestigious stadiums—is currently being installed on the stadium field.
The facility in Łódź will be the first stadium in Poland to implement such a comprehensive turf renovation system, which includes a complete replacement of the turf layer, the installation of new natural grass, and the weaving in of synthetic fibers to reinforce the surface.
All work being carried out at the stadium is fully funded by FIFA. The renovation is one of the most important elements of Łódź’s preparations to host the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The city’s participation in international sporting events brings not only excitement and publicity, but also concrete investments in local sports infrastructure that will remain in Łódź for years to come.
SIS Pitches, a global leader in modern sports surfaces, is responsible for the project. The company’s solutions are used at stadiums such as San Siro, FC Barcelona, Galatasaray, and many Premier League clubs.
The technology involves mechanically weaving synthetic fibers into the turf layer. The fibers integrate with the root system of the natural grass, increasing the turf’s stability and its resistance to heavy use and changing weather conditions. The system also ensures the highest standards of play, adequate traction, and player safety during the tournament.
The renovation of the field has been divided into three phases:
- replacement of the vegetation layer,
- installation of new natural turf,
- sewing in synthetic hybrid fibers.
The first two phases have already been completed. The final installation of the SIS Pitches system is currently underway and will take a few days.
Once the work is complete, the Władysław Król Stadium will feature one of the most modern playing surfaces in this part of Europe. The new surface will remain at the stadium even after the championship concludes, becoming a permanent part of Łódź’s sports infrastructure.
