Fall in Łódź promises to be exceptionally eventful. In September, the city will be brimming with concerts, theater performances, festivals, stand-up comedy, and events for pop culture fans. One of the highlights of the cultural calendar will be the 37th International Comics and Games Festival at Atlas Arena.
The first Sunday in September was full of events
The first weekend of September will feature events for lovers of various cultural fields.
- September 6, 7:00 p.m. – “Opera Łódź Opener,” Grand Theater in Łódź – The Grand Theater in Łódź will kick off its anniversary season with a concert on Dąbrowski Square. The event will be part of the theater’s 60th-anniversary celebrations. From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., a free family picnic is also scheduled, featuring demonstrations of the theater’s work, performances by the Grand Theater in Łódź Children’s Choir, the Ballet School, and music schools, as well as set design and ballet workshops.
- September 6, 5:00 p.m. – Radio Nowy Świat’s “Concert of Wishes from Łódź,” Schiller Passage – this outdoor broadcast will be hosted by Wojciech Mann and Marian. The audience will not only be able to listen to the program live but also dedicate a song of their choice to their loved ones. Admission to the event is free.
Stand-up comedy, music, and major festivals
September also has plenty to offer fans of stand-up comedy, music, and major cultural events.
- September 15, 7:00 p.m. – Błażej Krajewski “Human,” Król Kul Bowling Alley – one of Poland’s most popular comedians will present his latest solo stand-up show. Tickets start at 80 zł.
- September 17, 7:00 p.m. – Tomek Kołecki, Klub Scenografia – the comedian will return to Łódź with all-new material. Piotrek Jaskuła and local stand-up comedians will also take the stage.
- September 18, 7:00 p.m. – Opening of the Łódź Philharmonic’s artistic season – The Łódź Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paweł Przytocki, will perform with British pianist Jonathan Plowright. The program features works by Aleksander Tansman and Witold Lutosławski.
- September 17–20 – Łódź Multicultural Festival – as part of the main program of this year’s edition, there will be performances, concerts, exhibitions, debates, and meetings dedicated to, among other things, memory, identity, and international solidarity.
Atlas Arena will be a hub for comics and games
One of the highlights of the September calendar for pop culture fans will be the 37th International Comics and Games Festival in Łódź.
- September 19–20 – 37th International Comics and Games Festival, Atlas Arena, Sport Arena, and EC1 – attendees can look forward to meetings with Polish and international creators, a trade show, workshops, exhibitions, gaming zones, and a cosplay contest. You can find the full event schedule here.
The comic book star coming to Łódź will be John Romita Jr., the legendary American artist known for his work on Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the "Kick-Ass" series, among others.
Festival events will take place at Atlas Arena, Sport Arena, and EC1.
Late September: Theater, Music, and the Glow of the Lights
The end of September will, as usual, be dedicated to the Light.Move.Festival. In addition, plans include the opening of the artistic season at the New Theater and a concert at the Łódź Philharmonic.
- September 25–27 – Light.Move.Festival., public spaces in Łódź – The 16th edition of the festival will feature plenty of 3D projections, light installations, screenings, and artistic illuminations, which will appear in areas such as Piotrkowska Street, EC1, and city parks. There will also be plenty of live music—the lineup will include the Łódź-based band Black Radio. Admission to all festival events is free.
- September 25, 7:15 p.m. – “Long Live Life: Rhapsody,” Kazimierz Dejmek New Theater – the New Theater’s new artistic season will kick off with the premiere of this production on the Small Stage. Directed by artists from Łódź, the play explores contemporary relationship issues through a poetic and musical lens.
- September 27, 3:00 p.m. – “Cafe Bodo – I Made a Date with Her for Nine,” Łódź Philharmonic – Tadeusz Seibert will play the role of Eugeniusz Bodo, and Emilia Czekała will perform the role of Hanka Ordonówna. The program features the greatest pre-war hits, with musical accompaniment provided by the Bydgoszcz Symphony Orchestra.
