Metal Hammer Festival – a new edition in 2023!
The latest edition of the Metal Hammer Festival will take place on June 5 at the Atlas Arena in Łódź, with the headliner being a band whose return to the live stage is one of the biggest events in the metal scene! Cowboys straight from hell – PANTERA! Two American bands—Hatebreed and Crowbar—will also perform at the festival, while the Polish scene will be represented by Illusion, Flapjack, and Subterfuge!
This will be the loudest comeback to the concert stage! A celebration of one of the greatest metal bands in history! For the first time in over 20 years, you’ll be able to hear live material from Pantera’s iconic albums that defined the metal scene of the ’90s. Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, along with hundreds of thousands of fans at next year’s biggest festivals, will celebrate the legacy of one of the most influential metal bands in the world. And it will be a truly unashamed display of power!
Pantera is one of the most decorated and influential metal bands of all time. This uncompromising quartet—comprising vocalist Philip Anselmo, guitarist Dimebag Darrell, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, and bassist Rex Brown—rose to fame in the 1990s with numerous gold and platinum albums, sold-out concert tours, wild live performances, and four Grammy nominations. The band recorded nine studio albums, including such cult classics as “Cowboys from Hell” (1990), “Vulgar Display of Power” (1992), and “Far Beyond Driven” (1994). The Texas quartet continues to inspire legions of musicians while gaining millions of wildly devoted fans around the world.
Hatebreed is an American band that formed in 1994. The band has released eight studio albums, and their debut album, *Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire* (1997), has achieved cult status. The band’s discography concludes with the 2020 album “Weight of the False Self.” The band’s musical style is described as killer, metal-infused hardcore.
Straight from the swamps of Louisiana comes the sludge metal juggernaut— Crowbar! Led by Kirk Windstein for over 30 years, the band is one of the most influential metal acts to come out of New Orleans. Their discography includes 12 studio albums, the latest of which, “Zero and Below,” was released in March of last year.
Illusion is one of the most recognizable bands on the Polish rock scene. The band has been active on and off since 1992, and it is Lipa and his bandmates who wrote such cult classics as “Nóz,” “Vendetta,” and “Ciern.” The band has released six studio albums, with “Anhedonia” (2018) being the latest addition to their discography. Lipa comments on Illusion’s performance at the Metal Hammer Festival: “One of my dreams is coming true. I’ll be playing before a band whose power influenced the development of my own; the uncompromising riffs and the raw intensity in their vocals became an ideal I strove for. I think I came close at times. That’s what Pantera was to me. An endless stream of power.”
When thrash and hardcore punk simmer in a metal cauldron, and Litza and Slimak—along with the rest of the Flapjack crew—spice it all up with rap rock and rapcore, deep lyrics, and a healthy dose of catchy melodies, the result is one of the most intriguing dishes on the metal menu. Flapjack, who have already released four cult albums, are currently working on a new record set to drop in the first half of next year, and you’ll be able to check out this material live at the Metal Hammer Festival!
The Polish band Subterfuge will be the first act to take the stage at the festival. The group has already released two studio albums, *Projections from the Past* and *Prometheus*. Their sound blends death metal elements with heavy metal and progressive metal, and is further enriched by saxophone parts.
This year's edition of the MHF will be the ninth, and past performers at the festival have included such stars as Marilyn Manson, TOOL, Korn, and Judas Priest.
